The 2017 State Baseball champions had to not only prevail over their competition but the rain as well. We appreciate everyone's patience, understanding, and cooperation as rain delayed the start of the final two games on Saturday several hours. Kudos to the grounds crew at Ripken for a fantastic job of prepping the field! After a long delay, Class 2A Middletown and Fallston were finally able to take the field and Middletown posted an 8-0 shutout for their first ever state baseball crown while Fallston ending up receiving the tournament sportsmanship award. The Class 3A Final closed out the late evening with a thrilling 4-3 win by Poolesville over Chesapeake-AA, also their first ever state baseball title.
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all of our participants, coaches, officials, and spectators for another memorable season. Our thanks go to the management, support staff, and grounds crew at Ripken Stadium for their first class hospitality, cooperation, and hard work as our tournament finals site in challenging weather. In addition, we 'd like to thank the management and support staff at Povich Field, Joe Cannon Stadium, Harford Community College, and McCurdy Field for doing an exceptional job hosting all of the State Semifinals also in less than ideal weather. Last but not least, a hearty thank you to the members of State Baseball Committee, led by Jason Woodward, for their invaluable time and effort all season long. We hope to see everyone back at Ripken Stadium next year for more of "America's game"!
