The 2017 State Field Hockey Championships came to a chilly close on Saturday at Washington College in Chestertown with four closely contested games which highlighted crisp offense and stingy defense.  In the first game of the day, Class 4A South River edged Dulaney for their sixth overall title and second consecutive, 2-1.  Class 1A Patuxent followed with their first ever State title by virtue of their win over a tough Francis Scott Key squad, 2-0.  In the Class 2A tilt, Glenelg nipped Hereford by a score of 1-0 to hoist their fourth state crown and Chesapeake-AA successfully defended last year's 3A title by defeating C. Milton Wright, 2-0.  One more award was also presented for the Tournament Sportsmanship Award which went to James Hubert Blake.  Congratulations, ladies!  Select the links below for a summary of the State Semifinal and Final results and the complete brackets for each classification.

The MPSSAA is extremely grateful to Washington College and the Athletic Department there for permitting us to use their gorgeous facilities for our Finals and for the superior cooperation we receive from everyone there.  We would also like to extend our gratitude to Broadneck HS and Paint Branch HS and Athletic Directors Ken Kazmarek and Heather Podosek, respectively for doing a fine job of hosting all of the semifinal games at their school sites.  Most importantly, we deeply appreciate the time and effort put forth by our State Field Hockey Committee, led by Phyllis Hemmes, in their commitment to the sport of field hockey throughout the year.  There are no region tournaments or State tournament without their unselfish donation of time and talents.  We will look forward to seeing everyone next season.  Players remember...only perfect practice, makes perfect!
