2024 Swimming and Diving Championships

The 2024 Swimming and Diving Championships were held February 23 & 24 at the Eppley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park.

DIVING

  • In the girls division, the difference in points between the first and third place finishers were a mere 10.65 points.  These three divers separated themselves from the rest of the field throughout the competition.  After finishing in third place last year, Kaarina Williams of Walt Whitman took home the gold.
  • In similar fashion in the boys division, Tynan O'Donoghue of Walt Whitman finished third in last year's finals.  He was able to win his state championship with a margin of victory of almost 40 points.

BOYS SWIMMING

  • Class 4A/3A:  Winston Churchill was able to recapture the state championship with a commanding victory that saw them score 377 points.  The team was the runner-up last year after holding the 2022 trophy.
  • Class 3A/2A/1A:  It was Poolesville standing at the top of the podium once again after the Rockville boys were able to put a stop on their string of consecutive state championships last year, ending the streak at 10.  Rockville was hoping to make it back-to-back, but those Falcons were just too strong.  Poolesville won their 11th state championship.

GIRLS SWIMMING

  • Class 4A/3A:  For the last three championships, Walter Johnson and Bethesda-Chevy Chase have finished in the top two, with Walter Johnson winning the last two championships and Bethesda-Chevy Chase taking it in 2020 (COVID-19 prevented a 2021 season.).  After finishing in third in both the 2022 and 2023 finals (the highest placement they had achieved), it was finally time for the Rockets of Richard Montgomery to shine.  They overcame their rivals, capturing their first ever state championship.
  • Class 3A/2A/1A:  Since 2015, only Poolesville, Damascus, and Easton finished as either the champion or runner-up.  In the 2024 edition, a newcomer broke this stronghold and made a statement.  The Northern-Cal Patriots challenged the top contenders and won their first state championship.
