Football Teams Grind Out Titles

The MPSSAA Football Maryland State Championships have concluded at M & T Bank Stadium and none of the wins came easily. Ten points was the largest margin of victory in any of the four final games and most ended with the outcome still in limbo until the final whistle. Read below for all of the State Final results and box scores. (updated 12/4/10, 6:30 p.m.)

Class 3A kicked things off on Thursday, 12/2 when Wilde Lake upended Franklin, 21-14.  This was the sixth state crown for Wilde Lake while Franklin made their first appearance in the final game since 1978. Friday, 12/3 featured the Class 4A finale with Urbana edging Henry A. Wise 6-0 for their fifth state title. Henry A. Wise took home the runner-up trophy for the second consecutive year. Play continued on Saturday, 12/4 with Dunbar coming from behind to overtake Havre de Grace for the Class 1A title 22-12. This was Dunbar's seventh championship while Havre de Grace was looking for their first since 1986. The Class 2A game was a hard fought win by McDonough for their fourth state title over Middletown 21-14. Middletown was seeking their first state championship.

These Finals would not have been possible without the first class cooperation that we receive from The Maryland Stadium Authority and the Baltimore Ravens to utilize M&T Bank Stadium as our venue. We would also like to thank our tournament workers, each member of the State Football Committee, the Region Tournament Directors, and the host school sites during the playoffs for their valuable time and effort throughout the season and each tournament round.  Next season is already full of more hope and promise. See you next fall!
