Three glorious days of running, jumping, throwing and great camaraderie between competing student-athletes came to an energetic close at Morgan State on Saturday as two teams successfully defended their 2018 titles and three won a state crown for the first time. Don't forget that unlimited free viewing and DVD purchases of Saturday's final events will be available within 72 hours on the NFHS Network. Leading the way was the Class 4A Northwest Boys team with a fourth consecutive state title and their fifth overall while the Oakdale Boys (2A) successfully defended last year's state title and posted their second consecutive and overall state crown. The Urbana Girls reigned supreme in Class 4A taking home their second state title as did the Henry E. Lackey Boys (1A), but it has been twenty-two years between their two titles. In Girls Class 1A, Largo won a seventh state championship after a twelve year hiatus. Members of the "first timers" club joining the party atop the podium by taking home their first State Track crowns were the Huntingtown Boys (3A), the Northern-Calvert Girls (3A), and the Hereford Girls (2A).
The MPSSAA extends congratulations to all of the schools and participants in this year's meets. Our sincerest gratitude to the State Track and Field Committee, especially Outdoor Director Beth Shook, Site Director Clayton Culp, and all of the region meet directors for another outstanding job of planning and preparation leading up to this culminating event. A special shout out to Morgan State University and their staff for their cooperation and assistance in providing their great facility for our meets. And last but not least, thank you fans for your support. We hope to see you again next Spring!
