Maryland Contingent Attends National Student Leadership Conference

For the second consecutive summer, the MPSSAA is sending student-athlete delegates from around the state to participate in the NFHS National Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis from July 15th-18th. Students will attend workshops, assist in a community service project, and develop action plans for the MPSSAA and their respective schools.
The nine student-athlete delegates include Kyle Chaillou from Kenwood HS, Deontae Christian from Southside Academy, Elizabeth Mahr from Westminster HS, Molly Managhan from La Plata HS, Janae Nelson from High Point HS, Alyssa Parkhurst from Paint Branch HS, Victoria Spies from Colonel Richardson HS, Brook-Lynn Williams from Aberdeen HS, and Joseph Yarn from Oakland Mills HS.
The NFHS National Student Leadership Conference provides a forum for adult and student leaders from around the country to discuss contemporary issues facing athletics and activity programs. The goal of the curriculum is to develop leadership skills that enhance sportsmanship, time management, perspective, inclusion, and a healthy lifestyle as well as promote teamwork and community service in order to uphold the positive values that years of research have substantiated as a benefit of participation in interscholastic athletics. The curriculum is specifically developed for the high school age group and is taught by college and adult facilitators. Both small and large group interactive discussions will be used to grapple with these issues and assist the student delegates in creating their own solutions in meeting these challenges.
