In celebration of 50 Years of Title IX, the MPSSAA Girls’ Lacrosse Committee honored state committee director, Ms. Melba Williams, on the final night of the 2022 girls lacrosse state tournament.
As a Title IX Trailblazer, Ms. Williams organized the first girls’ lacrosse state committee in 1974, with a vision to bring girls lacrosse region and state tournaments to Maryland. In 1990, her vision became reality with the playing of the first ever MPSAAA Girls’ Lacrosse State Tournament.
She has served as director of the girls lacrosse state committee since 1995. Ms. Williams will retire her position as state committee director this year; but, will continue to be involved in the continual growth of high school girls’ lacrosse.
Ms. Williams will forever be associated with girls lacrosse in Maryland with the MPSSAA naming "The Melba E. Williams Sportsmanship Award" in her honor.
A true Title IX Trailblazer, we thank you Ms. Williams! Enjoy Retirement!
