The MPSSAA has released the proposed classification alignments for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years. The proposed classification alignments will go before the MPSSAA Board of Control for final approval on December 10. Once the MPSSAA Board of Control adopts classifications they shall remain in effect for the next two school years.
For the purpose of parity in competition in meets and tournaments coordinated by the MPSSAA, member schools shall be divided as equally as possible into four classifications based on enrollment. Enrollment numbers are submitted to the MPSSAA Executive Director by November 1, by the local superintendent, and include the actual enrollment of grades 9, 10, 11 in each of the MPSSAA member schools as of September 30, in each even numbered year.
The MPSSAA 188 schools will be broken evenly into four classifications titled 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.
4A = Top 25 percent based on enrollment
3A = Next 25 percent based on enrollment
2A = Next 25 percent based on enrollment
1A = Lowest 25 percent based on enrollment
