Latest Update Regarding MPSSAA Interscholastic Athletics!!

The State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Karen Salmon has announced the availability of member schools to re-engage student-athletes in outdoor participation. Dr. Salmon, in her remarks on June 10, 2020, was indicating that school practices may begin in accordance with the appropriate timeline for high school sports as described in COMAR 13A.06.03, which is currently August 12, 2020. PepWear Is Our New Official Event Merchandiser For State Championships!!

The MPSSAA has entered into a long term agreement with industry-leading event merchandising company PepWear as its Official Event Merchandiser and Online Merchandiser. As a part of the five-year agreement, the MPSSAA joins a growing roster of state associations that have partnered with PepWear. The company will exclusively design, produce, and sell MPSSAA-branded merchandise, both online and onsite for all public high school state championships.

The selection committee met online on Friday, 5/1 to choose a male and a female recipient from each of the MPSSAA's nine districts who will receive a $1,000 scholarship thanks to the generosity of the The Allstate Foundation. Regrettably, MPSSAA Boys and Girls State Basketball Championships scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2020 through Saturday, March 14, 2020, have now cancelled due to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone who purchased an online ticket to the Boys and Girls Basketball State Championships should have already received a full refund. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), after careful review and in consultation with the Maryland State Board of Education and the Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools, is officially announcing the cancellation of all MPSSAA events for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This includes the remainder of the 2020 Boys and Girls Basketball State Championships and all spring sports, as well as spring State Championships.

In accordance with the actions of the State Superintendent of Schools and the Maryland State Board of Education this week, all interscholastic athletic team gatherings, activities, practices, and contests are suspended until further notice.

Boys & Girls State Basketball Tournaments Contingency Plan Announced!!

The MPSSAA has just released the following contingency plan for the Boys and Girls State Basketball Championships which are scheduled to be played on Thursday, March 12th through Saturday, March 14th with the following modifications. Unfortunately, recent developments have forced all entities to determine the events will be held in a closed gym format, but will remain at Towson University and the University of Maryland-College Park. The State Wrestling Tournament is all wrapped up after three days of top-notch wrestling at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro.
