Accomplishing A Team Goal...Priceless!!

The exclamation point has been put on the end of the winter basketball season.  Everyone sets goals to begin the season but not everyone gets the chance to see their goals accomplished.  Four state champions have that sense of true satisfaction as they reflect on winning their respective classification.  Select the links above to access complete brackets with results and game stats following the completion of each contest.  (updated 3/15/14, 9:50 PM)

Play began with the Class 1A Final as Edmondson/Westside held off hard-charging Allegany, 54-51 for their second consecutive state crown.  In the Class 3A Final take, City College took care of business against Westlake, 59-48 for their third state title.  The second half of the day kicked off with the Class 2A title game Potomac prevailed over Oakdale, 64-51 for their fourth state championship.  Play wrapped up with the Class 4A title game as Dr. Henry A. Wise downed Whitman, 70-43 for their first ever state title.  Don't forget to relive all of the action on demand and purchase DVD's at the MPSSAA Network.

Thanks go out to all 16 region tournament directors for their efforts in directing the region tournament series leading up to the state tournament.  It is a thankless job that is key to the overall tournament success. The MPSSAA also greatly appreciates the time and effort of the state tournament committee, led by Director Earl Hawkins, many of whom worked the entire 3 days of the championship weekend. In addition to the state committee, a whole host of willing and dedicated workers, led by Tournament Director Greg LeGrand, helped make the weekend run like a well-oiled machine in providing a lasting lifetime memory for all of the participants.  Last, but not least, we are indebted to the University of Maryland's Athletic Department and staff for permitting us to utilize the Comcast Center and the Maryland campus for this event. Their cooperation and flexibility are second to none and we appreciate the great working relationship that we maintain with them. Enjoy the offseason and see everyone back on the hardwood next fall!
