The MPSSAA celebrates the life of former state baseball committee director, Paul Fahrner whose presence in Maryland public high school athletics include a successful coaching career and time as an athletic director.
Mr. Fahrner spent many years as the accomplished baseball coach of Paint Branch High School winning back-to-back state titles in the 1990 and 1991 seasons. His 1990 team was undefeated when they hoisted the trophy. He eventually stepped away from the Paint Branch diamond and moved on to be the athletic director at Rockville High School.
As the director of the baseball state committee, Mr. Fahrner, along with the committee's members, was responsible for running a smooth state tournament. The respect for him was immense and it was eventually decided that baseball's sportsmanship award be named after him.
