Our eight recipients of the 2010 Allstate Corporation Minds In Motion Scholarships were presented with ceremonial $1,000 checks at a luncheon held at M&T Bank Stadium on Wednesday, June 2nd.  Two Allstate representatives were in attendance to participate in the recognition of these outstanding student-athletes.  Select the link above to view the video summary of this event.

     Each recipient was introduced with their list of impressive credentials which included a GPA of 3.95 or better and 12 seasons of athletic particpation.   Mark Bradley from Easton HS, Joe Cuff, Jr. from Liberty HS, Ryan Delaney from Mountain Ridge HS, Lindsey DiAntonio from Marriotts Ridge HS, Elizabeth French from Century HS, Devon Harman from Stephen Decatur HS, Rachel Novosad from Northwest HS, and Simon Shahinian from Churchill HS awed the audience with the quality and quantity of their accomplishments and activities.

     The check presentation followed an inspiring and life-altering message delivered by guest speaker Steve Fitzhugh, a former NFL player and current executive director of "Power Moves".  Mr. Fitzhugh challenged the student-athletes in the audience to be strong enough to make the tough choices in order to stay successful and keep hold of their dreams rather than "going with the flow". In addition to success, Steve emphasized the need to lead a life of significance where one person can positively change the course of many lives.

     Parents, coaches, athletic directors, and administrators were in attendance from the families and schools of the scholarship winners.  Also, the nine Maryland Student Delegates that will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference this summer in Indianapolis were in attendance and introduced to the audience.  This annual conference is sponsored by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and will be a springboard for our first statewide student leadership conference on August 10th at Oakland Mills HS.
