The State Wrestling Tournament came to an impressive conclusion with 28 State Champs being awarded their medals on the top step of the podium, 7 of whom were repeat winners. Highlighting the field of defending champs was North Hagerstown's Aaron Brooks who joined the elite group of 4-time winners with his gold medal in the 182-lb. weight class. Four separate State Dual Meet Wrestling Team Champions were crowned yesterday at North Point HS for the first time ever in the 24-year history of the State Duals. Damascus HS headlined the day by winning their 6th consecutive state crown and 8th overall in garnering the Class 2A title. Kudos to the members of the MPSSAA State Wrestling Committee for the vision and energy behind the first MPSSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational Tournament which took place on Saturday, 2/3 at Northeast HS in Anne Arundel County! The goal of the invitational was to further increase the interest and participation of females in the sport of wrestling which is showing rapid growth around the country.
