    2017 State Field Hockey Champions Prevail Over Tough Competition!!

    The 2017 State Field Hockey Championships came to a chilly close on Saturday with four closely contested games which highlighted crisp offense and stingy defense. Class 4A South River edged Dulaney for their 6th overall title and 2nd consecutive, 2-1. Class 1A Patuxent followed with their first ever State title over a tough Francis Scott Key squad, 2-0. Class 2A Glenelg nipped Hereford by a score of 1-0 and Chesapeake-AA successfully defended last year's 3A title over C.M. Wright, 2-0.

    In a recent meeting with Loyola University officials, the MPSSAA was alerted to previously scheduled events on Thurs., 11/16 that would render Ridley Athletic Complex short-staffed. Therefore, in order to provide a professional atmosphere and to ensure the very best for our student-athletes and their schools, the MPSSAA will now host two games at Loyola on Weds., 11/15 and then return to the University for the remaining contests on Fri., 11/17 and Sat., 11/18 as originally scheduled.

    The MPSSAA is saddened by the sudden passing of Sam Singleton on 8/31 and Walt Hardy on 9/2. Our most heartfelt sympathies go out to the family, friends, students, and co-workers whose lives were touched by these two gentlemen. Both Sam and Walt brought a positive energy with them in whatever they did and they will be sorely missed.

    Nationwide Participation In High School Sports Nears The 8 Million Mark!!

    The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has just announced that the number of participants in high school sports increased for the 28th consecutive year in 2016‐17 – drawing close to the 8 million mark – according to the annual High School Athletics Participation Survey (see link inside of story). Maryland's participation numbers also experienced an increase last year to 112,414 student-athletes.
