A weekend of "firsts" began with the first State Diving Championships.  Churchill can proudly claim both the boys' and girls' State Diving Champions as Timothy Faerber (533.1 points) and Kali Becker (435.8 points) took home the gold medals.  Paint Branch's T.J. Shinholser (514 points) and Springbrook's Colby Shinholser (476.4 points) came in second and third, respectively.

Two new Boys' Team State Swimming champions were crowned on Saturday.  Class 4A/3A got things started as Walter Johnson HS won their first ever MPSSAA state team swim title with 268 points over runner-up Churchill's 223 points.  In the afternoon, the Class 3A/2A/1A Champion trophy went to Poolesville HS, also their first ever MPSSAA state team swim title.  Poolesville amassed 301 points to easily outdistance the 211 points posted by runner-up C. Milton Wright HS.

The MPSSAA appreciates the hours of labor and love that our State Swimming & Diving Committee put into organizing and running the region and state meets.  We would also like to thank those who are not State Committee members that hosted and/or ran region meets.  Your contributions were invaluable and we appreciate them very much.  We are also indebted to the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Services for allowing us to utilize Eppley Recreation Center for our State Meets.  A special thank you to Carrie Tupper and her staff.  We can never say enough about the high level of cooperation that we receive from everyone there and we count our good fortunes to be working with you.  Can't wait for next year!!
