State Champs Put Forth Total Team Effort

The State Championship meets came to an exciting conclusion at the University of Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center on Saturday, February 26th as appreciative crowds cheered on swimmers from across the state.  Souvenir apparel items sold out on site but may be ordered online beginning Monday afternoon at www.nightmaregraphics.com(updated 2/27/11,  8:50 a.m.)

The Class 4A/3A schools got things started on championship Saturday with the Severna Park Boys defending their state title by taking home gold for a second year in a row by topping Broadneck, 281 points to 235. The Urbana Girls turned the tables on Severna Park by reversing last year's finish to take the title by a margin of 325.5 points to 300 points.

The Class 3A/2A/1A Boys had the closest finish of the day as Fallston prevailed over Stephen Decatur for their fourth title in five years, 284 points to 282.5 points. Meanwhile, the Girls 3A/2A/1A  competition had an identical finish as last year's meet with Frederick hoisting the championship trophy for the second year in a row with 271 points to runner-up Middletown's 210.

Our deepest appreciation to the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Services for the use of Eppley Recreation Center.  We are so fortunate to have the level of cooperation and assistance we continually receive from the CRS staff.  Many thanks to the State Swimming Committee, many of whom ran region meets in addition to working the state meets.  Somehow these hard-working educators find the time to take on these additional responsibilities, and we are grateful. We will look forward to seeing everyone back in the pool next year!
