On Friday South River had to defeat Catonsville by a score of 6-0 to hoist the Class A State trophy for the first time.  South River also took home a second piece of hardware as they were awarded the Paul Fahrner Sportsmanship Award.  Saturday's play began as Cambridge/South Dorchester downed Allegany in the Class 1A title match-up by a score of 15-0 in 6 innings for their third state title.  The Class 2A title tilt followed on Saturday as Catoctin edged North Caroline, 4-2 for their first state championship.  Play wrapped up Saturday night with the 3A championship game as Bel Air nipped La Plata, 3-2 for their 2nd state crown and first in 17 years.

We would like to tip our caps to the State Baseball Committee, led by Jason Woodward, for their effort and assistance throughout the season especially with the region and state tournaments. Likewise, our appreciation goes out to those individuals who make the baseball facilities at Arundel HS, McCurdy Field, Joe Cannon Stadium, and Shipley Field at the University of Maryland available to us.  A special thank you to the folks at Ripken Stadium for their cooperation and assistance in making our State Finals the special experience that it is.

We also need to thank all of the coaches, officials and spectators for the support you give to our tournament.  In addition, we would like to extend our congratulations to each and every participant.  Keep honing those skills and remember that only perfect practice makes perfect!
