     The key elements of the proposal include expanding the state dual meet tournament to include team championships in all four MPSSAA classifications, while unifying the individual tournament – one individual state champion per weight class. The plan includes eliminating team scoring from the individual state championships at Cole Field House and determining team championships exclusively through the dual meet tournament.

     This proposal could potentially enhance both the dual meet and the individual state championship tournaments. Conducting the state duals in four separate classifications would assure four separate state team championships in four separate classifications each year, consistent with most other MPSSAA sports. In turn, the individual state tournament at Cole Field House would focus exclusively on determining the best wrestler in the state, regardless of the size of the school. Simply put, one tournament would focus entirely on the team; the other would focus entirely on the individual.
