Indoor Track & Field 2016 State Champions Take A Well-Deserved Victory Lap!!

After all of the points were tallied, eight Boys and Girls State Indoor Track and Field Championship teams got to savor a victory lap around the track at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex the past two nights. 2016 State Swimming & Diving Champs Hold Off Tough Competition!!

The State Swimming and Diving Championships have come to an impressive conclusion! The State Diving titles went to Mory Gould from Winston Churchill on the boys side and Damascus' Madeline Kline on the girls side. In Class 4A/3A Swimming the Richard Montgomery boys and Sherwood girls won state titles. In Class 3A/2A/1A, Poolesville successfully defended both both their boys and girls state crowns. Now that all of the region meets are complete, the qualifying swimmers and divers move on to take part in the State Championship meets on Friday, 2/19 and Saturday, 2/20 at Eppley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Maryland - College Park. Girls Lacrosse Officials' Clinic At Pine Grove MS Is POSTPONED For Tuesday, 2/16!!

The lingering inclement weather has resulted in a multitude of school closings today (2/16). Therefore, the Class 4A and 3A State Indoor Track Championships have been postponed along with the Girls Lacrosse Officials' Clinic for BBOWS at Pine Grove MS. The officials' clinic already has a reschedule date of 2/29 but will now be held at Roland Park Country School in the library at 6:45 PM.

Damascus HS and Middletown HS Win 2016 State Dual Meet Wrestling Titles!!

The freezing temps did not keep Damascus HS from blazing through the competition and winning a 4th consecutive State Class4A/3A Dual Wrestling crown, their 6th overall. In Class 2A/1A, Middletown HS improved upon last year's runner-up finish by taking their first state title, while Oakland Mills took home the first ever State Duals Sportsmanship Award. The twelve 2016 Region meets for Indoor Track and Field concluded on Wednesday, 2/10. Qualifying teams and individuals from the region meets now move on to compete in the State Championship meets scheduled for Monday, February 15th and Tuesday, February 16th at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. Spalding Chosen As The New Official State Volleyball!!

The MPSSAA Executive Council voted at last week's meeting to accept the contract proposal from Spalding as the official state volleyball beginning with the Fall, 2016 season and running through the Fall, 2020 season. The Spalding VB5 ball with red, white, and black panels will be required for region and state tournament play and highly recommended for play throughout the regular season.

Change To COMAR Regulations Regarding Swim Meet Scheduling Becomes Effective 1/7/16!!

The Maryland State Board of Education has approved the adoption of an amendment to the COMAR regulations regarding swimming that becomes effective on 1/7/16 for the current season. The amendment will permit swim teams to compete in meets on consecutive days and schedule three meets in a week one time during the regular season.

Jason Bursick Named As MPSSAA Assistant Director!!

The Maryland State Board of Education has appointed Mr. Jason Bursick as the new Assistant Director of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA). Jason becomes the third person to hold the assistant director's position and will begin working in his new position on January 6th.
